French holiday courses: Montreux, Switzerland

Lolita of Lake Geneva

Beautiful, refined, sophisticated. Without excess, however, and without having really wanted it. Montreux is above all an extraordinary concentration of visitors who have fallen under its charm. Young inspired people, overactive pensioners, famous artists and others who are still too little known. It is striking. An international and lively town, a bit in spite of itself. A town which brings together the best of the Vaud region and which has a way with welcoming distinguished guests, those who will have preferred it to the great classics which are said to be more prestigious. An exceptional land which invites for simple and authentic pleasures, panoramas which the whole world is crazy about, a vitality which irons out, without any scruples, all the postcards that are a bit short and each bit of news that is a tad too long...Montreux, let’s not forget it, is a pioneer in the subject. From Byron to Nabokov, passing by Stravinsky, a long tradition of hospitality is still very much alive there. From the 19th century, the Russians made it their duty to pass through there in order to achieve their “great tour” with panache. They are still there. The English always loved flirting with the surrounding high summits and still doesn’t come back from them, whilst the French still wonder why, on the 19th frimaire of the year 11, the Emperor transformed himself into a mediator. Today, the Arab princes often prefer it to the great pretentious eplaces which only are rivals to themselves. With the Jazz Festival in mind, with its wild evenings and the quays lined with palm trees and select hotels, Montreux has its fair share of international events, without neglecting for all that the heritage of the mountain small farmers to whom it owes so much. With rare essences and exotic perfumes, Lake Geneva seems to have been especially designed to perfectly blend the multicoloured banks of the promenade...You wish to learn French in a dream setting? Montreux is really the right place!
