Yes We Can

"We are all Americans", they said. And finally, it happened. Following the election of Barack Obama, we found ourselves rediscovering a country, a continent, about which we believed we had already thought, said and digested everything. Is it necessary to have seen too many Hollywood films in order to imagine resuming, in three sentences and four clichés, a land which goes from the desert in order to finish up at a glacier. A history of immigration, whose main players were the last to arrive. A world of freedom, of endless spaces, which ten years of suffocating politics has not managed to exhaust. There is nothing in common, it appears, between New England with its sophisticated culture and the smooth rays of California. And yet, there is the same desire everywhere, that of consuming astonishing panoramas, encountering a population which is amongst the friendliest there is, the frenzy of creation and a profusion of culinary delights which is owed to all of the components of the melting pot. The United States, in reality, carries all of the human adventure in its hopes and contradictions. Once you've had a taste of it, you won't want to come back.
